Captains outrank Suns

May 05, 2006

EASTLAKE, Ohio - This time, the Hagerstown Suns ran out of magic.

The Suns attempted another one of their near-patented, ninth-inning comebacks but came up short Thursday in a 6-4 loss to the Lake County Captains.

The Suns entered the ninth trailing by three runs and promptly put runners on first and third with none out.

The Captains went to closer Matt Davis, who forced Jonel Pacheco to hit into a force out that cut the deficit to two runs.

The Suns loaded the bases, but Fernando Martinez and Andrew Manuel struck out to end the game.

Lake County scored single runs in the first and fourth innings and four runs in the second to take a 6-0 lead.

The Suns came back with a three-run home run by Leivi Ventura in the seventh.

Suns starter Jacobo Neguilis (0-1) lasted 1-1/3 innings before pulling himself from the game with an injury.
