Twirlers do well

Way to go, Tiffany and Brittany! Tiffany Showe, a 10th-grader at South Hagerstown High School, attended a twirling competition, Majorette of Maryland, Maryland State Twirling Championships, and did a terrific job.

Tiffany attended the competition hosted at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmittsburg, Md., and claimed several top awards. She received first place in modeling and basic strut, third place for solo, second place for state two baton, second place for super X strut and overall Novice Junior Miss Majorette 2006. For her accomplishments, she received a trophy, sash and flowers.

Tiffany's younger sister, Brittany, was also at the competition and claimed some top awards. Brittany, a fifth-grade student at Bester Elementary, received second place in open event novice modeling, fifth place for basic strut, and tenth for Miss Maryland Princess Novice Junior pageant.

Brittany and Tiffany are the daughters of Mary and Darren Showe and granddaughters of Jackie Thompson of Halfway.

Auction planned

The Washington County Homemakers Clubs will host their annual specialty auction for Educational Scholarships on Friday at Elks Lodge 378 in Hagerstown. The doors open at 12:30 p.m. and will begin with a silent auction, followed by a live auction by auctioneer Ron Hamner.

Antiques, specialty household items, tool kits, home decor, plants, furniture pieces, theme gift baskets, handcrafted quilt items, a fine raffle for a trip for two, retired Longaberger basket, and a $100 cash award will be offered. Last year, 18 scholarships were presented as a result of the auction.

Craft show

Craft collectors, be sure to take note ... Lakeside Park in Halfway will be hosting a craft Show on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Many craft vendors will be on hand for craft-collecting fun.

Rabies clinic

The Washington County Health Department will be conducting rabies vaccination clinics for the spring season.

Dogs, cats and ferrets (3 months of age or older) are eligible for vaccination. A clinic will be available on Wednesday, May 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Washington County Ag Center at 7313 Sharpsburg Pike, south of Hagerstown. The fee is $5 per animal. The clinic will be held rain or shine.

Please note that dogs must be on a leash and cats and ferrets must be in carriers. Puppies and kittens vaccinated between the ages of 4 to 12 months must be revaccinated 12 months later. All dogs and cats that are 12 months or older and are current on rabies vaccine will be eligible to receive a three-year vaccine at no additional cost (proof of current vaccine will be required).

PTA forming

Attention parents of South Hagerstown High School students ... South Hagerstown High School has a newly formed PTA and is inviting all parents to attend.
