The sugary smell of funnel cakes is in the air. It's festival time.

This week, the Downsville Ruritan Club and Funkstown Rod & Gun Club Carnival is going on through Saturday across from Bester Elementary School in Hagerstown, says organizer Bill Blair.

Tonight there will be two children's shows, at 6 and 8, featuring favorites Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Barney, Big Bird and Elmo.

The food vendors open around 5 p.m. and the amusement rides start at 6 with the carnival running until about 10 or 10:30 p.m. tonight and until about 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Blair says. Bingo will be held nightly.
