Remains of body found in W.Va.

May 02, 2006

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - The remains of a body - believed to be connected to a crime which may have occurred nearly two years ago - were found a month ago along the Potomac River, Morgan County Sheriff's deputies said today.

Chief Deputy Timothy Stapleton and Investigator Tony Link discovered the remains in early April. An all-night excavation of the area was begun and the bones were later determined to be human.

The medical examiner's office contacted the Smithsonian Institution's forensic anthropologist for assistance in further excavating the site and more remains and other evidence were found at the site, police said.

While no positive identification has been made, numerous leads are being explored. Additional interviews will be conducted to follow up on those leads, police said.
