South High alumni plan 50th anniversary events

April 28, 2006

A group of South Hagerstown High School alumni is planning a series of activities and recognitions for the 2006-2007 school year to observe the 50th anniversary of the opening of South Hagerstown High School.

The group has formed an Anniversary Planning Committee. Its members are seeking ideas and input for the anniversary event from all of the classes that have graduated from South High.

The committee invites anyone interested in providing input to attend one of the meetings that have been scheduled during May Teacher Appreciation Week.

"We are specifically looking for representatives from the reunion committees of each of the classes from South Hagerstown High School to meet to share ideas and plan for the celebration of South High's 50th year of service to the community," said planning committee member Dick Martin.

"For those attending these meetings who have not seen the school renovations, there will be a tour of the building 30 minutes prior to the start of each meeting at 6:30 and 8 p.m," he said.

"Reunion committee members are encouraged to bring a copy of their class mailing list that can be shared so that we can create a comprehensive Alumni Directory."

Anniversary T-shirts will be on sale at each meeting for those who would like to contribute to the event.

Each meeting will be held in South High's cafeteria.

Following is the meeting schedule:

Tueday, May 9, 7 p.m. - Classes of 1957 through 1969.; 8:30 p.m. - Classes of 1970 through 1979.

Thursday, May 11, 7 p.m. - Classes of 1980 through 1989; 8:30 p.m. - Classes of 1990 through 2005.
