Legion post offers scholarships

American Legion Post 236 in Sharpsburg will award two $500 scholarships due to the efforts of George Crist, Dale Lewis and members of the post.

Applicants must be graduating seniors from Boonsboro High School who plan to pursue two- or four-year programs at an accredited institution. Applicants will be judged on the following criteria:

  • The applicant must be in the immediate family of a member of either the American Legion, the Sons of American Legion or the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

  • The applicant must show a need for financial assistance.

  • The applicant must have maintained a grade point average of 3.0 and above.

    Applicants must write an essay of 200 to 500 words on the topic, "What I wish to accomplish with my life." The deadline to apply and to have the essay in the office of Anna Lofton, a school official, is May 12.

    Evaluation will be by Lofton and selected members of Post 236.

Parade booklet memorials needed

Doris Shoemaker is collecting Sharpsburg Memorial Day Parade memorials for the Parade Booklet.

She is collecting for the Dargan and Antietam areas.
