Washington County Family Center

Staff of the Washington County Family Center recently provided a presentation, "Partnering for Teen Parent Success," at the 25th Anniversary Conference of Family Support America, held in Chicago March 26-29.

Attending were Karen Christof, director; Shana Matthews, case manager; Terry Shaffer, teacher; and Kaylin Smith, parent and graduate of the program.

The presentation focused on the Family Center's High School Credit Program, an alternative program for parenting teens in Washington County.

The two-hour presentation included a history of how the program began and has evolved over the past five years as well as successes and challenges of the program.


The Washington County Family Center, at 920 W. Washington St. in Hagerstown, is directed by the Washington County Department of Social Services.

Sales Course

"Sales Empowerment NOW" is being offered to sales representatives and managers through Hagerstown Community College's Center for Continuing Education.

"Sales Empowerment NOW" is designed to help sales reps learn new techniques to get sales and to help managers learn new ways to motivate sales reps.

The program will be offered to reps on Thursday, April 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and to managers on Wednesday, May 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Hagerstown Community College Center for Continuing Education offers American Management Association certificate programs in management, supervision and human resources management. Upcoming classes include:

Coaching for Top Performance, May 4. This course provides a combination of training, communicating and motivating skills for managers to get the best performance out of each employee.

Fair, Square and Legal Documentation, May 18. Participants will learn to identify potential violations, investigate harassment complaints, write safe job advertisements, and more.

MANITOWOC, Wis. -The Manitowoc Company will redeem its 10 3/8 percent senior subordinated notes due 2011, effective May 15.

As set forth in the indenture for the notes, Manitowoc will pay holders 105.188 percent of the principal amount plus accrued and unpaid interest up to the redemption date.
