Suns' rally falls short

April 23, 2006

Hagerstown's ninth-inning rally fell short as the Suns lost 5-4 to Lake County on Saturday night in front of 1,591 at Municipal Stadium.

With the Suns down to their last three outs and trailing 5-3, Jonathan Sanchez led off the bottom of the ninth with a double. After Leivi Ventura drew a one-out walk, Hector Pellot hit an RBI single to make it 5-4, putting the tying run on third base and the winning run at first.

But Dustin Roddy struck out Jonel Pacheco and Andrew Butera to end game and pick up his first save of the season.

Pellot, a second baseman who entered the game with no RBI this season, drove in all four of Hagerstown's runs Saturday. His three-run homer in the fourth inning tied the game at 3-3.

Lake County went back on top with a run in the fifth off Suns reliever Jim Wladyka (0-1) and added an insurance run in the ninth.

Captains reliever Mark Jecmen (1-2) struck out seven in 3 2/3 innings.

Lake County's P.J. Hiser, a Hagerstown native, did not play.
