She was a member of the board and secretary of the Old Charles Town Library; member and secretary of the board of directors of Jefferson Memorial Hospital; member of the board and campaign chairman of the United Way of Jefferson County; and member of the board and secretary of the Jefferson Memorial Park Board. She also had served as the sponsor for the Jefferson High School Key Club.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Peter Dougherty; two daughters, Megen Dougherty and Beth Dougherty, both of Charles Town; one son, Bryan Dougherty of Charles Town; one brother, James L. Helsel Jr. of Camp Hill, Pa.; and one grandson.

Services will be Saturday, April 29, at 10 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town. The Rev. James Chambly and the Rev. Richard Kroll will officiate. Private burial will be in Middletown Cemetery, Middletown, Pa.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Funeral Home, Charles Town.

Joseph B. Weisgerber

Joseph Brian Weisgerber "left late, drove fast and arrived on time" to meet his Creator on April 19, 2006.

He was born on a Tuesday morning, Dec. 2, in Philadelphia, Pa. He was the son of Joseph Aloysius Weisgerber of Silver Spring, Md., and the late Patricia Marie Bird Weisgerber.

Driving his truck and doing "the right thing" were Brian's passions in life. He was an accomplished mechanic. He always put others first and never failed to help the needy using his talents.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Navy Reserves, having been trained as a jet mechanic.

He will always be remembered by his loving wife, Frances Loretta Weisgerber; one son, Raymond Allen Nix Jr. of North Stonington, Conn.; three daughters, Wendy Sweeney Rodriguez of Danville, Va., Melissa Weisgerber of Woodbridge, Va., and Mary Lee Marcum of Williamsport, Md.; three brothers, Bernard Joseph Weisgerber of Frenchtown, Mont., Patrick Gerard Weisgerber of Adamstown, Md., and Michael Thomas Weisgerber of Sykesville, Md.; two sisters, Margaret Mary Miller of Kalispell, Mont., and Theresa Jean Weisgerber of Huson, Mont.; thirteen grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

"Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God." Brian's family and friends truly saw him as pure in heart.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, Md.

Private memorial services will be held with the family on Saturday, May 13, 2006, at 1 p.m. Any attending are requested to wear casual attire. This is in response to Brian's wishes.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742, instead of flowers.

Doris J. Porterfield, 81

AUG. 19, 1924-APRIL 20, 2006

Doris Jane Porterfield, 81, died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Homewood at Williamsport.

Born Aug. 19, 1924, in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Claude Knode Humrichouse and Beulah Florence Weagley Humrichouse.

She was a teacher at Hagerstown High School from 1946 to 1954; a registrar/instructor at Hagerstown Junior College from 1954 to 1957; and director of music at Winchester Avenue Christian Church in Martinsburg, W.Va., from 1963 to 1978, and Zion United Church of Christ in Hagerstown from 1978 to 1987.

She was a member of Zion Reformed United Church of Christ in Hagerstown; the Treble Clef Club; Woodmen of the World; Church Women United Auxiliary; service workers of Zion Reformed Church - served as president for six years; member of Homewood Auxiliary and Hoffman Homes Auxiliary; and member of the Adult Choir of Zion Church.

She had received her degrees at Hood College in Frederick, Md., and Columbia University in New York City.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, the Rev. Joseph P. Porterfield; and one son, David A. Porterfield of Martinsburg.

A memorial service will be Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Zion Reformed United Church of Christ with the Rev. Robert Royal and Chaplain Reginald Rice officiating. Private burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at a later time.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
