County raises fees for water and sewer, landfill

April 21, 2006|by TARA REILLY

The Washington County Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to raise water and raise sewer rates and fees at the Forty West Landfill.

For residential customers, water rates will increase by 3 percent and sewer rates by 2 percent.

Landfill permit fees for seniors and other permit holders increased by $5. The County Commissioners also approved higher tipping fees, which are charged when vehicles drive across the scale.

The Solid Waste Department recommended that permits increase by $5 for seniors and $10 for other permit holders.

The commissioners reduced the $10 increase for other permit holders to $5 after Commissioners Vice President William J. Wivell objected.

Permits for seniors increased from $90 to $95, while permits for other customers increased from $120 to $125.
