Artists needed for chair parade

April 18, 2006

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Local artists are invited to submit applications to participate in this year's Chair Parade, sponsored by the Council for the Arts during the month of July in conjunction with ChambersFest. The juried competition will result in the chosen artists creatively transforming unfinished rocking chairs into works of art, which will be displayed at area businesses and available for purchase through a silent auction. Prizes will be awarded in several categories and presented at the Parade Finale July 29 at the Wood Center Stage Theatre in the Capitol Theatre Center.

Last year's event was a great success, according to Theresa Bachman-Myers, executive director of the council. "We were thrilled with the wide variety of artists represented, as well as with the tremendous response from the public," said Bachman-Myers. "People were calling in bids right up to the last minute and continued to stop and look at the chairs until the lucky high bidder picked them up."
