School candidates invited to forum



SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Shepherdstown Men's Club has invited all 11 candidates in the Jefferson County Board of Education race to participate in a public forum Saturday.

The forum will begin at 3 p.m. in the Men's Club building on German Street.

All candidates will have an opportunity to speak and to answer questions from the audience.

The moderator will be Jean Ann Pugh.

Following the forum, at 4:30 p.m., the club will host an informal meet-the-candidates reception.

The public is invited.




Environmentalist and author to speak



MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Author and environmental activist Bob Reiss will speak at Mercersburg Academy on Friday at 10 a.m., in the Mercersburg Academy chapel on the subject of "Man Made Weather."

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Reiss is the author of several novels and works of non-fiction including, "The Last Spy," "The Road to Extrema," "The Coming Storm," and most recently, "Black Monday."

He is a former Chicago Tribune reporter and has written for the Washington Post, Outside, Parade, Smithsonian, GQ and Rolling Stone magazines.
