Project will affect parking, traffic on Liberty Street

April 15, 2006

Starting Tuesday, a public works project will affect parking and traffic on and around the 400 block of Liberty Street, according to the City of Hagerstown's Water & Sewer Department.

The city has hired Am-Liner East to install liners in sanitary sewer mains in the northeast and southeast quadrants of the city.

On Tuesday at 7 a.m., the contractor will be placing equipment on Liberty Street. "No parking" signs will be posted near the work area.

After that, the contractor will place equipment on Cleveland Avenue, Osborne Avenue and East Franklin Street.

Motorists approaching the work zones should expect flag people, barricades, traffic control signs and temporary wheel ramps to let traffic drive over pipes and hoses, according to a press release from the city.

Work is expected to continue at least through April 28.

Emergency vehicles will be able to get through.

Future phases of the work will follow the sewer lines along Cannon Avenue to Memorial Boulevard.
