"One caller calls in about obesity and the salad bar making people fat. People make people fat by the choices they make in diet. Proper diet and exercise. Bottom line. Some people need therapy, as food is a comfort for them mentally. Food can be as addictive mentally as cigarettes or booze."

- Cavetown

"I'm calling about the hooligans on Mapleville Road in Cavetown at 2 a.m. I was wondering if the police could patrol this area a little better because there are a number of people speeding. A red Ford Explorer goes by my house every night at 2 a.m. with the stereo as loud as can be, and I am awakened by this every night!"

"Something I see that I think is pretty bizarre is people mowing their lawn without picking up the trash and litter first. Can't you see the mess you're leaving behind? It really looks terrible. You should really pick up the trash and litter before you mow the grass."

- Hagerstown

"The person who called to say that Democrats are procrastinators and Republicans are prompt demonstrates that to him, the party is more important than the country or the working people. It's so typical of our current administration. This is the type of public official you will get if you don't vote."

- Williamsport

"I'd like to comment on the article in the Sunday, April 9, paper by Tim Rowland about racism. Normally, I don't read his articles, but the title of that article caught my eye. I just want to tell Tim Rowland that I read it, and it is so very true. It was very well written. So many people in this area want to ignore the fact that racism is still very much around us. I enjoyed the article, and I just wish more people would realize the truth."

"President Fox in Mexico closed his southern borders so that the illegals from Central America won't come in, yet he wants us to bear the costs of illegals from his country to ours. If the 12 million illegals are a boon to our economy, why are our taxes always going up and our pensions going down?"

- Hagerstown

"I saw in the paper that the Maryland prison guards are going to get their raise, bigger than any other state employee raise. Now, maybe the next time around, the governor will feel sorry for the rest of us."

- Frederick, Md.

"I found a tool bag today at Woodland Heights Road near Old Colony. I know tools are expensive, so if the person who owns this could call me at 240-420-0944, I would be glad to return the items."

- Hagerstown

"I'd like to know if there will be a class reunion for the class of 1981 for North Hagerstown High School this year. My home phone number is 301-432-8126."

- Boonsboro

"The vets now charge a $200 fee for my cat's checkup and teeth cleaning. My dentist charges me $108 for cleaning my teeth."

- Hagerstown

"I'm calling in reference to the paper that I received in the mail the other day from the engineer in reference to the change in trash pickup, etc. It is very hard for people like me who wear bifocals to try to read a map like this. We need somebody to make this in a larger print. They want you to do something that's a big change, but we need something that we can read. I cannot put this thing together. As far as I'm concerned, it's not usable. I am looking to be more knowledgeable and do more, but I can't do it if I can't read the map. I can be reached at 301-739-7093."

- Hagerstown

"I find it really scary that a foreign country (Mexico) can change our U.S. laws for their benefit. I have relatives who are legal immigrants. Illegal means just that. It's against the law, and they should go back and come here legally."

- Hagerstown

"In the process of people protesting about being illegal immigrants, instead of waving American flags or Mexican flags, why can't they wave green cards, or at least an American citizenship, before they have a right to protest in my country?"

- Halfway

"By all means, let's not upset the illegal aliens in this country with no vote to count anyway. Let's vote out the politicians who bend over backwards to support illegal actions. In Mexico, an American is not allowed to own land. In America, a Mexican is allowed to break the law, go to school and receive social services."

- New Durham, N.H.

"Wake up. If you think the State of Maryland or the federal government cares about the gas prices, you'd better think again. They make too much money from the taxes. They actually want us to buy more. Think about that."

- Hagerstown

"President George Bush, the Republican party and corporate America is taking this country down. What do you think is going to happen if we have 11 million illegal immigrants become U.S. citizens overnight, so to speak? It'd be a disaster for our social services and for our Social Security. We'd better wake up, America - and we will wave American flags - no foreign flags."
