Shooting staged

HANCOCK - The Hancock Police Department staged a mock shooting incident at the Hancock Middle-Senior High School on March 31, Police Chief Steven L. McCarty said.

The mock shooting was in response to what happened at Columbine High School in 1999, McCarty told the town's council members Wednesday, during the town's monthly meeting.

The training, McCarty said, took place on a day when students were out of class and was aimed to prepare the school's staff for such an incident.

"The staff reported that they thought this was a very good training exercise," he said.
