Racquetball registration



WAYNESBORO, Pa. -Registration is under way for the Waynesboro YMCA spring racquetball league. The YMCA has a division for everyone ranging from open to novice. The Y staff pairs up matches and players arrange a convenient time to play prior to the deadline.




Teen fitness classes



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Chambersburg YMCA will offer a new session of T.F.T. Totally Fit Teens beginning Wednesday, April 12. This class is for tweens and teens ages 11 and older who want a fun aerobic and strengthening workout. Class is held for seven weeks from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays. The class is $5 for the session for members and $10 a session for nonmembers.

Certified instructor Barb Houpt will lead teens through safe and challenging fitness workouts each week. For information, call 1-717-263-8508.




Qigong classes



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Chambersburg YMCA will offer a seven week session of 18 movement Qigong beginning Thursday, April 13. Qigong is a Chinese meditative exercise program appropriate for all ages and abilities. The movements are non-impact and can be performed from a seated position for those with limited mobility. Classes will be offered at 7 p.m. Thursdays, and at 9:30 a.m. Saturdays. The cost per session is $30 for YMCA members, and $45 for nonmembers. For information, call 1-717-263-8508.

Cooking with spring foods



FREDERICK, Md. - Frederick County Cooperative Extension will offer "Looks Like, Cooks Like, Tastes Like Spring!" from 1 to 2 p.m. or 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, at the extension office, 330 Montevue Lane.

April is National Cancer Control Month, Pecan Month and Soyfoods Month. The program will explain the nutrition connection to each. There will be tasty samples using soy products, pecans and plenty of foods to reduce your cancer risk.

Lifeguard training



MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks and Recreation will offer two American Red Cross lifeguard training classes at War Memorial Pool. The first session runs Monday, May 8, through Sunday, May 21, and the second runs from Thursday, June 1, through Sunday, June 25.

A participant must have completed Level V of American Red Cross swim instruction and be 15 years old prior to the start of class. A swim skills test will be administered the first day of class. The $150 fee covers instruction and all materials for the class.

CPR, First Aid classes



The Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer the following classes:

Adult CPR and First Aid Basics, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, May 8, and Monday, June 12. $40. The cost is $30 for Adult CPR only, which meets from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The cost is $25 for First Aid Basics only, which meets from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Adult CPR, 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, and Tuesday, June 13. $30.

First Aid Basics, 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, June 8. $25.

Infant and Child CPR, 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, May 11. $35.

Babysitters Training Class, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 19. $35.

Adult, Child and Infant CPR, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 10. $50.

All classes are approved for day care providers and are at discounted prices for combination of classes taken.

All classes will be held at American Red Cross Headquarters, 1131 Conrad Court, Hagerstown.

Arthritic drag racer to speak



FREDERICK, Md. - LaRue Johnson will speak about the world of drag racing at the age of 65 at 2 p.m. Friday, April 28, at the Arthritis & Osteoporosis Center of Maryland, 71 Thomas Johnson Drive.

Johnson will share his personal story about the triumphs of winning the East Coast Championship and the challenges in living with arthritis. Johnson will be available for photographs and to answer questions.

Golf lessons



WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Waynesboro YMCA will offer golf lessons through Waynesboro Country Club. Lessons will be held at 6 p.m. from Thursday, April 20, through Thursday, May 18.

Learn putting, chipping and driving tips from Matt MacCumbee, head PGA pro at the country club. Clubs will be provided if needed. Country club dress code applies.
