Maryland Day celebrated

April 10, 2006

Students and staff at Pleasant Valley Elementary School celebrated Maryland Day on Friday, March 24, with many activities focused on the state and designed to develop the school curriculum.

In the morning, students in Jenny Poling's class read directions for baking Black-Eyed Susan (the state flower) cookies. Legislative aide Lisa Baugher told students about some of the events that occur in the Maryland General Assembly.

In the afternoon, students read Maryland literature from the school library, wrote poems and stories about Maryland and constructed a tissue craft about the Chesapeake Bay.

Students from both Lindsay Weaver's and Poling's classes agreed to taste the cookies baked in the morning.

Parent volunteers Laurie Ballow, Laurie Bellerive, Laura Pantos and Myra Rossen assisted students.
