Department of Social Services honors Gordon

April 10, 2006

Timothy S. Gordon was the recipient of the Washington County Department of Social Services' first "Commitment to CommUnity" award, presented March 17 at the agency's Employee Recognition Day.

The Commitment to CommUnity Award is presented to people who have provided extraordinary and distinguished service, benefiting the lives of vulnerable children, adults and families in Washington County. The award reflects the thanks of the department's clients and staff, and the unity brought to the county when its most-vulnerable citizens are protected and empowered.

Gordon has been the agency's adult and child welfare attorney since 1989. In 1996, his duties were expanded when he was named Maryland Attorney General Special Counsel for Child Support Enforcement.

During his tenure, Gordon shepherded more than 300 adoptions through the Circuit Court for Washington County. As part of a Child Support Demonstration project, he developed a "conciliation conference" procedure to expedite child support collections. Conciliation conferences were incorporated into Maryland Family Law on Oct. 1, 2000.
