Chambersburg woman dies in crash

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.

A Chambersburg woman died early Saturday after her vehicle went across a highway median on Interstate 81 and struck a tractor and semi-trailer, Pennsylvania State Police said in a press release.

Stacey Lynn Sawyer, 40, of Chambersburg, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

The other driver, Bruce E. Hinman, 38, of Harrisburg, Pa., suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Chambersburg Hospital, according to the release.

The accident occurred about 3:30 a.m. when Sawyer, who was southbound on I-81, lost control of her 2005 Hyundai Sonata sedan. The vehicle crossed over the median and struck the center guardrail before traveling into the northbound lane, where it struck the other vehicle, a 2005 Volvo tractor and semi-trailer, according to the release.

Both vehicles then traveled off the ride side of the northbound lane, and Hinman's vehicle flipped onto its right side, according to the release.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, according to the release.
