"This is a shout out to Sherry, a nurse at Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C., who commutes from Hagerstown. Sherry, thank you so much for your care, concern and sweetness during my Dad's time at your facility. This was so hard on the whole family and having someone as sweet as you taking care of my Dad, well, it helped so very much. You make a difference in people's lives; a positive one, God bless you."
"I would like to thank my many friends and relatives for their support during the time I spent at St. Joseph's Hospital. I was there for one month and four days. They were very kind. Thanks also to the doctor on call at Washington County Hospital emergency room on March 15. He knew right away that I had to be taken by helicopter. Thanks to Pastor Luther and his wife for prayers, and also my wife, Myrtle. Thanks to Teamsters Retiree Club 992 for the fruit basket, and to all who sent me cards."
"Can someone please tell me what major league baseball players came from the Chambersburg area? I know Nellie Fox is a famous one, and Tom Brookens, who played for Detroit, is another. I know there are a couple of other older players. I'd appreciate it if someone would please put it in Mail Call."
"Are you tired of seeing all the unsightly housing developers' signs along our roadways on the weekends? They put as many as three identical signs together. There are also signs for blinds, subs, dating, and so forth. These signs are a distraction to drivers, thus they are a safety hazard. If the sign is posted on a public right-of-way, the county should require a stamp or license be purchased and affixed to every sign at a cost of least $50 each, with a six-month expiration. In the meantime, the road crews should gather them all up and take them to the landfill."
"John Munson and Bill Wivell are absolutely right about the cable franchise deal. I hope they don't let Greg Snook shut them up. The citizens of this county need their concern, and we appreciate their courage - even knowing they can't outvote the other three."
"I'd like to know why The Herald-Mail puts obituaries in the back of the paper, behind sports. That's not very nice. I think they should stop and think about that. "
"Why do the Democrats yell so much about President Bush wiretapping? Franklin D. Roosevelt authorized wiretapping during peacetime. Roosevelt wasn't taking chances. He said 'It is too late to do anything about it after sabotage and assassination are completed.' Harry Truman did wiretapping in peacetime, also. President Carter and Bill Clinton did wiretapping. Lyndon Johnson ordered the FBI to perform domestic surveillance and wiretapping, even on members of Congress. I think the Democrats are making a big racket because they can't think of anything better to do."
"I'm so proud of the young person who called in and said they were 21 years old and just realized that they were an alcoholic, and they were going to try to get help and not hang out at the bar anymore. I pray that those children and young adults don't pick up the habit from their parents and grandparents. Maybe if they didn't go to bars they wouldn't pick up the habit of drinking, but I know some grandparents who drink around their grandchildren and set a terrible example. They constantly have booze and cigarettes in the house, and I think that is where the trouble lies. Children look up to their grandparents. I'm proud of this young person, and may God bless you."
"This call is about the livability code that the County Commissioners were going to vote on. I'd like to know where to get a list of what the county commissioners are going to vote on. Somehow I must have been asleep, because I didn't know they were going to vote on that. I don't really think they should have anything to say about what you do in your own home, and I don't know where they got the idea that they could do that. Thank you, Mr. Fales, for speaking up."
"I read about the health department food inspections. It's a wonder that more people don't get food poisoning. I ate at one restaurant that I always thought was clean, but after reading all that they had wrong with them, I'll never go there again. I think checkups should be done more often."
