Smithsburg firefighters lauded

April 05, 2006

Glenn Reynolds was recently honored as the 2005 Firefighter of the Year for the Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Co.

A teacher in Upper Marlboro, Md., Reynolds was described as an invaluable asset to the fire company by Phil Rohrer, company president.

"He would do anything to help me at the station," Rohrer said.

"I had no clue," Reynolds said. "They called my name and I couldn't believe it."

Reynolds said he has been a member of the company for 26 years. He joined because he was interested in the work and because a friend encouraged him.

"I have never regretted it," Reynolds said, noting that he also is an emergency medical technician, as well as a firefighter.

Reynolds, who has a daughter in college, also serves on the fire company's board of directors.
