Boonsboro approves annexation of 34 acres

April 04, 2006|by TIFFANY ARNOLD

BOONSBORO - The Boonsboro Town Council approved a proposal Monday night to annex 34 acres of land on Boonsboro's northern end.

A petition to annex three family-owned parcels of land passed 3-1 during the council's monthly meeting.

Councilmen Kevin M. Chambers and Raymond D. Grove abstained from voting. Councilman Bill Tritapoe opposed the annexation.

"I feel that we don't know enough about what's going to happen to the land," Tritapoe said.

There has been some discussion about building a senior citizens home on the site, town officials said.

Town Manager John L. Kendall said town officials would announce a public hearing on the matter in coming months.

The annexation - in addition to a recently adopted resolution to annex 32.49 acres of land on South Main Street - would increase the town's limits by about 6 percent.
