Health screenings offered at open house

April 03, 2006

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - In honor of National Public Health Week, the Berkeley County Health Department will hold an open house on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. offering free health screenings to the public.

The focus of National Public Health Week is children and the environment and the theme is "Designing Healthy Communities: Raising Healthy Kids." The Berkeley County Health Department will offer free blood pressure screenings, free glucose and cholesterol screenings, free radon test kits, pandemic influenza and program information along with refreshments and door prizes.

In 1995, former President Clinton proclaimed the first full week of April as National Public Health Week and each year since then the public health community has focused on issues that are important to improving the public's health.

For more information, call the Health Department at 304-263-5131 or visit the Web site at www.bchealthdept.org.
