Southern Fulton 8-3, Hancock 1-1

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Southern Fulton held Hancock to four total hits in a doubleheader sweep.

Josh Hall and John Francis drove in two runs apiece in the first game, while Hall threw a three-hitter with six strikeouts to pick up the win for the Indians.

In the second game, Jess Smartt pitched a one-hitter, striking out eight for Southern Fulton (3-1), while Quinton Hull had two RBI.

Martinsburg 11, Hampshire 1

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Brandon King pitched a five-inning one-hitter with seven strikeouts to improve to 3-0, and also had two hits and an RBI as Martinsburg kept its unbeaten record intact.


Zach Newhouse had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs for the Bulldogs (8-0). Matt Clatterbeck and Keenan Puller each had two hits and two RBI, with Clatterbuck driving his in on a triple. Blaine Coates had three hits and an RBI and Kevin Griffin added a two-run double.

Georgetown Day 15-4, St. James 5-10

St. James opened the Mid Atlantic Conference schedule with a doubleheader split.

Andrew Twigg struck out nine, Mike Russ had two hits and Mike Siegel and Alex Yaraghi each had two RBI, Yaraghi's coming on a two-run home run, for the Saints in their Game 2 victory.

Alex Bust had two RBI in the opener for St. James (2-2, 1-1).

Jefferson 10-10, Morgantown 0-5

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Jonathan Hash pitched a complete-game one-hitter with seven strikeouts and had two hits and two RBI to lead Jefferson past Morgantown (4-2) in the first game of the Cougars' doubleheader sweep.

Bobby O'Donnell hit a three-run homer and Brian Collins added two hits for the Cougars in the opener.

In the second game, Brendan McLaughlin, Bobby O'Donnell, Brandon Piper, Westley Jenkins and Chris Kelly led Jefferson with two hits apiece. Collins, Piper and O'Donnell each had two RBI for the Cougars (6-1).

Musselman 8, Pendleton County 5

INWOOD, W.Va. - Jesse Miner went 3-for-3 with three RBI to lead Musselman past Pendleton County.

Mark Darlington had two hits, including a three-run home run, and three RBI for the Applemen (4-2).

Shalom 5, Broadfording 1

Chris Slick and Brad Hess had two hits each to lead Shalom Christian (1-1) past Broadfording Christian (0-2)..

Woodlawn Baptist 12, Broadfording 10

Paul Merson had three hits, including two doubles, for Broadfording in the loss.

Tyler Fath and John Kehr each had a home run in the third inning for the Lions (0-3).


Southern Fulton 11-7, Hancock 1-5

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Kelly Elbin had two hits and three RBI for Southern Fulton in the opening game of its doubleheader sweep of Hancock.

Renee Spade added two hits and two RBI for the Indians in the opener, while Kenna Elbin had two hits.

Kris Creek had two hits for the Panthers.

In the second game, Kelly Elbin was the winning pitcher and had two hits, including a solo home run. Courtney Trainor added two hits for the Indians (3-0).

Kris Creek and Jennifer Willison each had two hits for the Panthers.


Tim Cook Invitational

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - It was only fitting that a pair of Chambersburg girls were named the outstanding athletes at the first Tim Cook Tri-State Invitational at Mercersburg Academy.

Anyssa Barbour got top honors on the track, winning the 100-meter dash in 12.6 seconds and the 200 in 25.8. Lorraine Hill was most outstanding in the field, winning the shot put (33 feet, 2 inches), discus (106-0 1/2) and javelin (120-7).

Cook, Chambersburg's longtime and highly successful girls coach, died in a car accident in 2002.

James Buchanan's Jed Yeatt's was named the boys outstanding track athlete. He won the 3,200 in 9:56.4 and placed second in the 1,600 in 4:39.2. Greencastle's Jesse Lenharr, who won the discus with a throw of 140-5, got top honors in the field.

Nine schools competed. No team scores were kept.
