Jamie Teach of Big Pool, a senior at Salisbury University, Salisbury, Md., was selected as the recipient of the 2005-2006 Outstanding Senior in Management Award. She will receive the award at the school's Honors Convocation in May.

Teach was one of six finalists nominated by faculty of the Perdue School of Management. The selection criteria for the award were: excellence in educational preparation as demonstrated by GPA; campus and civic activities; meritorious accomplishments in the area of specialization; and enthusiasm and dedication to the chosen field.

Teach will be completing her business management degree in May, graduating within three years with a grade-point average of 3.898 to date. The daughter of Karen Teach of Hagerstown and William Teach of Big Pool, she is a 2003 graduate of Clear Spring High School.

High Honors students have a grade-point average of 90-100. Honors students have a grade-point average of 80-89.




Twenty students at Penn State Mont Alto were inducted into the adult learner honor society, Alpha Sigma Lambda, on March 22. The society is open to outstanding students at Penn State Mont Alto who excel in academics and are at least 24 years old.

This year's honorary inductee is Beth Neisser, instructor of mathematics. Neisser lives in Hagerstown.




Emily Leatherman Heron of Myersville, Md., a junior at Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa., was named to the Honors List for the fall 2005 semester.

A student earns Honors List recognition for achieving a 3.7 or better grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

Heron is a 2003 graduate of Middletown High School. She is the daughter of Jane and Dr. David Heron.

Elizabeth Ann Carrill of Hagerstown, a first-year student at Franklin & Marshall, was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2005 semester.

A student earns Dean's List recognition for achieving a 3.25 or better grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

Carrill is a 2005 graduate of Saint James School. She is the daughter of Nina and Dr. John Carrill.




Hagerstown Community College recently inducted 89 members into the campus chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for students at two-year colleges.

To be eligible, students must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher and must have completed 12 credit hours of college-level work at HCC as a full-time student, or 24 credit hours of college-level work at HCC as a part-time student.
