April 02, 2006

More than 30 pounds of suspected marijuana was seized early Saturday by Maryland State Police in Hagerstown after a traffic stop on Interstate 81, police said.

Police stopped Denzel Thomas, 45, in the southbound lane of I-81 just before the Interstate 70 exit after observing alleged traffic violations, police said.

Police then asked and were granted a request to search the vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Avis rental car. They said they found the suspected marijuana in the trunk.

Thomas was charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia and possession with intent to distribute marijuana, police said.

The street value of the suspected marijuana is worth more than $30,000, police said.

Police also learned that Thomas was wanted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation out of the country, police said.
