First Data lays off 'just over 10'

April 01, 2006|By Tamela Baker

First Data Merchant Services laid off "just over 10 employees" Friday at its Hagerstown operations, corporate spokesman Jim Green said.

The layoffs were spread across different departments at the Hagerstown facility, and were made for "business reasons," Green said.

"As with any Fortune 500 company, First Data is always evaluating its needs," Green said. But he added there were no immediate plans for additional layoffs in Hagerstown.

With about 2,000 local employees, First Data is one of Washington County's largest employers. The company laid off about 50 workers in December.
