Pa. manure haulers can get more training

March 28, 2006

HARRISBURG - Pennsylvania manure haulers and brokers will have more opportunities for training in May, Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff said.

So far, the department has certified nearly 600 people, Wolff said.

The Commercial Manure Hauler and Broker Certification Law took effect Feb. 26 and requires owners and employees of commercial haulers or brokers to be certified by the Department of Agriculture.

The department, with Penn State's Cooperative Extension Service, already has hosted seven training sessions..

People seeking certification as a Commercial Hauler 1 or 2 are not required to take the classroom training and may be certified via worksheet or workbook, respectively. Materials are available online or by contacting the department.

To register, or for more information about the regulations and training, contact the state Bureau of Plant Industry at 1-717-787-3568, 1-717-772-5218, or go to www.agriculture.state.pa.us.
