Graham-Gray wins National Marathon

Susan Graham-Gray, 37, of Greencastle, Pa., was the women's champion at the inaugural National Marathon on Saturday morning.

Graham-Gray, who competes for Hagerstown's Cumberland Valley Athletic Club, covered the 26.2-mile course in 2 hours, 58 minutes, 5 seconds. Her first-place prize was $1,000. Beth Moras of Ridgewood, N.J., finished a distant second in 3:09:53.

Michael Wardian of Arlington, Va., was the men's champ in 2:30:55.

Colleen Forshee of Fayetteville, Pa., who also runs for the CVAC, was the fourth overall female in the National Half Marathon in 1:30:42.

Anderson wins 5-Miler

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Tammy Anderson, 32, of Hagerstown, won the women's title at the 23rd annual Forest of Needwood 5-Mile Run in 33:36. Anderson, who competes for the CVAC, won $50.



Shepherd splits DH

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Andrew McCormick hit a two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Shepherd University to a 5-4 come-from-behind win over Fairmont State in the first game of a West Virginia Conferene doubleheader.

The Falcons gained a split with a 2-1 victory in the nightcap.

Ryan Brady hit a solo home run and Collin Brown had two hits to lead the Rams in the victory.

Dirk Webb, who picked up the win in relief in the first game, hit a solo home run in the second game for Shepherd (19-7, 7-1).


Rams go 1-2 at Wesleyan

SALEM, Va. - Shepherd University won one of its three games at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament, dropping a 5-1 game to Bloomsburg and a 5-4 decision to University of Charleston before taking a 5-2 win over Mansfield University.

Stephanie Sims hit a three-run homer in the first inning to lead the Rams (10-14) to the victory over Mansfield.

Shepherd continues tournament play today at 9 a.m. against Mercyhurst and at 1 p.m. against Kutztown.
