March 23, 2006

A Hagerstown man was injured Tuesday morning when he was struck by a vehicle in South Padre Island, Texas.

Gavin P. Maguire, 21, was struck by a man who faced criminal charges as a result of the accident, South Padre Island police told The Brownsville (Texas) Herald.

Maguire was in critical condition Wednesday night at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas, a spokesman there said.

Adam E. Fanning, 20, of Shawnee, Kan., was driving a white Ford Exploer in the 3600 block of Padre Boulevard when he struck Maguire, according to reports.

Maguire told police he was crossing the road when the SUV hit him and left the scene. Fanning's vehicle was found in a hotel parking lot on Padre Boulevard, police said.
