School board approves $8,700 for Hancock soccer team

March 22, 2006|by KAREN HANNA

The Hancock Middle-Senior High School junior varsity soccer team is one step closer to the opening kickoff.

The Washington County Board of Education on Tuesday officially approved a gift of $8,700 to help establish a team at the school. The board awarded Golden Apple awards to team supporters Teresa Hess, a Hancock Elementary School teacher, and soccer team mother Karen Sornson, who last month celebrated their campaign to start a team by handing over a ceremonial check to the school.

The team, which so far has signed up 18 girls, will take the field this fall, Hess and Sornson told the board.
