Community choir to present Lenten concerts

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - The Community Choir will present a Lenten concert on Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and Sunday at 3 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Great Cacapon, W.Va.

The Community Choir, based in Berkeley Springs, is a group of volunteer vocalists, often accompanied by excellent local instrumentalists, and is under the direction of Lydia Walker, choral director and organist for the Presbyterian Church. Rose Ann Glover, from First United Methodist Church, is the choir's keyboardist/accompanist.

The highlight of the concert will be two selections from Franz Schubert's "Mass in G" which the choir will present in its entirety in mid-May. The Lenten concert also will feature works by Bach, Mozart, and various contemporary and traditional composers.

Guest artists and instrumentalists include Sally Drury, soprano; Heather Worley, James Worley, Laura Worley, Linda Whitesitt, string quartet; Anne Helmick, flute; and Ian Helmick, percussion.

Singers who participate in the 25-voice Community Choir come from various areas in and around the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. All concerts are free and open to the public.
