4-Star hosting benefit for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

March 20, 2006|by JANET HEIM

WILLIAMSPORT - Gymnast Mary Meroney, 16, of Hagerstown, doesn't let cystic fibrosis get in the way of gymnastics.

Instead, as she remains an active participant at 4-Star Gymnastics, she has drawn the admiration of others.

"She is an inspiration," said coach Deanna Kline, who helps Mary work out once a week. "She has been a faithful gymnast and works hard to keep gymnastics at the forefront of her life. She's such an example for everyone."

Mary has taken classes at 4-Star since she was 6. To support Mary and her sister, Rachel, who also has cystic fibrosis, the coaches and students at the athletic complex in Williamsport are organizing a fundraiser.

The benefit will be a showcase of young local talent - including gymnasts, dancers, cheerleaders and karate instructors. Admission is by donation and all proceeds will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
