Two Frederick police officers hurt

FREDERICK, Md. - Two Frederick police officers sustained minor injuries after being assaulted in separate incidents over the weekend, according to press releases by the Frederick Police Department.

In the first incident, at 8:03 p.m. Saturday, police said Sgt. Wayne Trapp was injured during a confrontation with juveniles after responding to a report of a large group fighting in the area of East Third Street and Austin Alley.

The officer was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital for a broken right hand, while a 14-year-old Frederick boy was treated for injuries sustained in the fight prior to police arrival. A second juvenile - his 15-year-old brother - was treated for the effects of pepper spray used by police, police said.

The 14-year-old was charged with assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and obstructing/hindering.

Because of their ages, the juveniles' names have been withheld.

At 12:31 a.m. Saturday, Officer Samantha Crane was allegedly attacked by a woman she was transporting to police headquarters when the suspect removed her hand from a set of handcuffs.

A 33-year-old Frederick woman was being held Sunday night on a $225,000 bond at Frederick County Adult Detention Center in connection to the assault.

According to police, Lisa Lyn Maley, of 5336 Bhines Road, was initially arrested by Crane after being stopped for driving without headlights on North East Street. Crane saw beer cans inside Crane's Dodge van, and a search of the vehicle revealed a small quantity of suspected crack cocaine and a drug pipe, police said.

As Crane was driving Maley to headquarters, police said, Maley grabbed Crane's hair and began to claw her face. Crane put the police vehicle in park, and she struggled with Maley, police said. Maley allegedly then forced her way onto the driver's seat and put her foot on the gas, and she allegedly attempted to push Crane out of the vehicle.

Members of Citizens Fire Co. who saw the fight helped Crane get Maley under control, police said.

Maley was charged with possession of controlled-dangerous substance, possession of controlled-dangerous substance paraphernalia, second-degree assault, attempted carjacking, attempted escape, second-degree reckless endangerment, driving under the influence, driver's license suspended/revoked.

Crane, who suffered cuts to the face and mouth, was treated by emergency-medical personnel. Maley was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for evaluation before being transferred to the detention center, police said.
