SHENANDOAH JUNCTION. W.Va. - Brian Collins hit a grand slam on the last pitch of the game as Jefferson beat St. Maria Goretti 15-5 in six innings Saturday in the season opener for each team.

Collins had three hits and six RBI and also pitched five innings to earn the victory. Brendan McLaughlin, Joe Wilt, Corie Gustines and T.J. Master each added two hits for Jefferson (1-0).

Ryan Wilson hit a three-run homer in the first inning for Goretti (0-1) while Kevin Brashears added two hits, including a two-run home run in the second inning.

Notre Dame 11, Musselman 1

INWOOD, W.Va. - Musselman gave up nine runs in the fourth inning in its loss to Notre Dame. Jesse Miner and Mark Darlington had two hits apiece for the Applemen.


North Stafford 8, Musselman 7

INWOOD, W.Va. - Brad Mason led Musselman with two hits and two RBI but the Applemen's late rally fell short against North Stafford.

Mark Darlington had three hits while Jesse Miner and Kenny Ramsburg each added two hits for Musselman.


Broadway 6-4, Hedgesville 3-10

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Emily Cunningham went 2-for-4 with a triple to lead Hedgesville to victory in the second game and a split of its doubleheader with Broadway.

Sarah Forney, Tabatha Porterfield and Lisa Sandford each doubled for the Eagles (1-1).

Forney led the Eagles with two hits in the opener.
