March 16, 2006|by PEPPER BALLARD

Washington County Register of Wills John R. Bloyer II filed Tuesday to seek a fourth term in office, County Elections Board Supervisor Sharon Mackereth said.

Bloyer, 58, a Democrat, has worked in the register's office at Washington County Circuit Court for 23 years. He has served as register since 1992.

A lifelong resident of Washington County, Bloyer, of Halfway, is married and has two daughters and a granddaughter, he said in a written release.

He served as president of the Maryland Register of Wills Association from 1997-98.

As register, Bloyer works with the register association to automate the records of the county office. Bloyer wrote that because the records are automated, both office staff and the public can get information about estates more quickly and efficiently.

The register's office opens more than 950 estates a year and takes in for safekeeping about 1,400 wills a year, he wrote. The office also helps the public with estate procedures allowed by law and serves as clerks for the Orphans' Court of Washington County.
