Shepherd teams sweep DHs

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Shepherd University picked up a pair of wins at the Snowbird Softball Tournament on Wednesday, rallying for a 6-2 win over Alvernia and later defeating Hilbert, 6-4.

Stephanie Sims led Shepherd in the first game, going 2-for-3 with a triple and a two-run homer while Jenn Canby went 3-for-4.

Canby went 3-for-4 while Sims and Julie Scherpf added two hits apiece for the Rams (4-7) in the nightcap.


Shepherd 9-7, Wingate 2-0

WINGATE, N.C. - Shepherd University swept Wingate University in doubleheader action, earning a 9-2 win in the first game and shutting out the Bulldogs 7-0 in the nightcap.

Ryan Brady had two hits and two RBI, while Collin Brown drove in two runs and Joe Cook and Dirk Webb each added two hits in Game 1 for the Rams.


John Hawse and Nicky Brown each had three RBI and Chris Anderson (5-0) struck out four and walked one in six innings for the Rams (14-5) in the nightcap.

HCC splits doubleheader

COCOA, Fla. - Hagerstown Community College split a doubleheader at the Cocoa Expo, falling to Genesee 8-5 in the opener before thumping County College of Morris 16-4 in the nightcap.

Kyle Chronister and Alex Bower each had two hits and an RBI in the first game for the Hawks.

Matt Murray had a three-run double and Matt Umberger had a two-run single to fuel a five-run first inning for Hagerstown (8-3) in the second game. Billy Spina had two hits and three RBI, while Lowell Coats added two hits.
