An 18-year-old Pikesville, Md., man was charged Saturday with drug possession after he allegedly fled from police who approached him during an investigation into possible drug activity, Hagerstown Police Department Sgt. Jim Robison said in a written release.

Jazmin Brewer, 18, of 22 Stone Pine Court in Pikesville, was charged with possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia, wrote Robison, supervisor of the department's Street Crimes Unit.

Police said Brewer dropped a baggy containing suspected crack cocaine when he ran from officers who approached him and a group of people in the 300 block of North Jonathan Street Saturday about 5:40 p.m. Robison wrote that members of the unit were investigating possible drug activity involving the group.

Police chased Brewer through Bethel Gardens Apartments before he was apprehended in a yard in the 100 block of West Bethel Street, according to the release.
