Thurmont Grange marks 60th year

THURMONT, Md. - Thurmont Grange 409 celebrated its 60th anniversary this year.

Among those honored were:

  • Patty Johnston of Hagerstown, who received the Community Citizen award and was recognized for serving 18 years at the chapter's secretary

  • Martha Favorite, a charter member

  • Jean Myers, a 50-year member

  • Robert Beavan, Greta Lambert, Carolyn Wiles and Robert Wiles, 25-year members.


The chapter was organized on Jan. 17, 1946, and chartered on Jan. 24 of that year.

Among the guests present at this year's Jan. 24 celebration at Mountain Gate Family Restaurant in Thurmont were: Robert Viti, vice-principal of Catoctin High School; Diane Ogg, Catoctin High agriculture teacher; Robert Beavan, Catoctin High FFA advisor and ag teacher; Laura Keilholtz, Catoctin FFA Alumni president; Robert Valentine, vice-president of the Thurmont and Emmitsburg Community Show; Kayla Stull, president of Catoctin FFA; Marty Burns, mayor of Thurmont; Roger Troxell, Master of Maryland State Grange; and Sam Kipe, Master of Frederick County Pomona Grange.
