Hearn goes for two in a row at Speedway

March 10, 2006

If there is anyone that likes Hagerstown Speedway on opening day, it is Bret Hearn of Sussex, N.J.

Hearn has won five of the last six modified openers at the half-mile oval, including last week's first-day victory.

Hearn will be looking for his second straight win of the 2006 season Sunday, one that would guarantee him a starting spot in the big block portion of the Octoberfest 350.

Hearn won last year's $10,000 big block feature at Octoberfest and has four wins in the fall classic. He leads all modified drivers in feature wins with 16 and is looking forward to the next three modified events at Hagerstown.

The small block Octoberfest Qualifier runs March 19. But the race Hearn is pointing toward is the 100-lap Super DIRT modified on March 25, the first Saturday-night event of the season at Hagerstown.

"I want to win the Super DIRT race at Hagerstown more than any race," Hearn said in Victory Lane after his fourth straight opening day win last Sunday. "I have been able to dial in my car for the daytime races, but haven't mastered the nighttime setup yet."

Racing gets under way Sunday with warm-ups at 1 p.m. and racing at 1:30. Gates open at 11 a.m.
