Mail Call

March 10, 2006

"Best of luck and good wishes to the cast and crew of North High's 'Oklahoma.' You guys sound amazing. Opening night is Thursday. Come and see them, they're fantastic."

- Hagerstown

"I want to thank the security officer at Washington County Hospital for his honesty and integrity. I left my purse with more than $500 in the employee parking lot one evening. He found it on his rounds and contacted me at home. I was very grateful to get my personal items, credit cards and cash back!"

"Dana Reeve, a beautifull human being. Dana, a loving wife and mother. Dana, a great singer in the caberets. Dana Reeve, deceased of lung cancer."

- Knoxville

In reference to the writer who saw the feline hit by a car. Hats off to you and your grandson for setting an exemplary example of what it means to be human. In this you not only saved the felines diginity by moving it thus preventing further damage but you also provided your grandson with a very important lesson in life."

"This is about our school children. I hope everyone is reading the paper about Del. Robert McKee introducing a bill to increase the school year by 30 days- that is six weeks! If you want to make your opinion known, do it immediately before it is too late. The phone number to call is 1-800-492-7122 or 1-410-841-3447."

"This is for any citizens who need help with Medicare D. I got all the help I needed by calling Senior Benefits Services Inc. at 301-733-0085. They are a great help."

- Hagerstown

"I'd like to know why, if a teen commits a crime, their name cannot be put in the paper. If they're smart enough to do the crime, they're smart enough to have their name put in the paper like anyone else."

- Hagerstown

"Concerning the rates at the landfill, I do not understand the philosophy behind the situation. I'm just a regular taxpayer like any other person in Washington County. They were going to give us a tax cut for our property, but I think that was all fictitious to begin with. Every time we turn around, they're raising fees. It went from about $35 to about $100, and now they want to raise it again because they say it's filling up faster than predicted. It'd be nice to get this checked into. Paying extra fees is getting old, and it's a shame."

- Maugansville

"In the Wednesday, March 8 paper, there's a big write-up about the city being a great place to live. I don't know who thinks the city of Hagerstown is a great place to live anymore. The only thing you've got is a bunch of politicians raising taxes all the time. If you're poor and you've got a job making $29,000, how do they expect you to live in Hagerstown anymore? The BOE woman is making $158,000, and Bruce Zimmerman and the rest of these guys make $100,000 a year. They can live in this great big city, but I don't think the city is so great to live in."

- Hagerstown

"I read in The Herald-Mail that the superintendent is getting a 5 percent annual raise, with a four-year contract, and an automobile allowance of $600 a month. I'm amazed that we elect our BOE. It would be interesting if the county was allowed to elect their school superintendent. Maybe that would change things."

"I think jobs in our area are requiring too much time of people. It is ridiculous to have people working almost 60 hours a week. What is this world coming to?"

- Funkstown

"I'd like to make a donation to the fellow who lost his body armor. As a former Marine sniper, I know how important it is for people to have their body armor. They have snipers over there shooting our guys, too. Hopefully, other people will step up and we'll take care of our own in this community."

- Hagerstown

"All in all, I think the elected officials in Williamsport are doing a very good job. If anybody has a comment, all they have to do is pick up the phone and call the mayor's office. I talk to him at least once a month. It's a number that anybody can get; it's 301-223-7711, ext. 205. They've got a lot of hard decisions to make, and I think that's what makes a great leader."

- Williamsport

"If everyone is getting this much money back on income taxes, I believe we should change Christmas. That way, everybody could afford to buy Christmas presents. We wouldn't have to worry about where we're getting our money for Christmas presents."

- Hagerstown

"Congratulations to The Herald-Mail for publishing the superintendent of schools' personal benefits. Do the math, and look what she's getting in a year. It's a little bit wrong."

- Hagerstown

"What method was used for the traffic study presented to the county planning commission from the Williamsport Venture LLC? I travel and live in this area, and did not see the standard counter crossing the road. Perhaps it was done at off-peak travel times."

- Williamsport

"I was at church and I saw a miniskirt and a prayer cap at the altar. What's the matter with that? It was on the same person. By the way, does anybody know another word for 'thesaurus?'"
