Dale L. Rowland, 65

JAN. 11, 1941-MARCH 8, 2006

CLEAR SPRING - Dale Linwood Rowland, 65, of Blairs Valley Road in Clear Spring, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 8, 2006, with his loving family surrounding him at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 11, 1941, in Clear Spring, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Blanche Carbaugh Rowland.

He was a member of Maugansville Bible Brethren Church, where he served as an usher.

He retired as a yardman with Steffey & Findlay Inc. of Hagerstown and previously was employed for 18 years with Ryder P.I.E., Pangborn Corp. and Whitetail Mountain Resort.

He was a member of Teamsters Local 992 Union Retirees Club and the Second Wind Club.

Dale cherished his family and the many gatherings held. He loved taking bus trips, traveling and transporting cattle for a local farmer. He was a faithful friend to everyone. He loved the outdoors and doing yardwork. He was an avid birdwatcher and provided for them.


Dale is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Louella M. Ruse Rowland of Clear Spring; one daughter, Sheri A. Rowland of Clear Spring; two sons, Wayne L. Rowland of Hagerstown, and Tim A. Rowland and wife, Penny, of Wolfsville, Md.; three sisters, Vera Kretzer of Williamsport, Lucille Stouffer of Greencastle, Pa., and H. Louise McKee of Clear Spring; two brothers, Robert Rowland and Daniel Rowland, both of Clear Spring; and one grandson, Derek L. Rowland of Hagerstown.

Services will be Saturday, March 11, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at Maugansville Bible Brethren Church, 17904 Binkley Ave., Maugansville. The Rev. John C. Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in Blairs Valley Cemetery, Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after 10 a.m.

Donna L. Mathis, 61

APRIL 14, 1944-MARCH 2, 2006

FLINT, Mich. - Donna L. Mathis, 61, of Flint, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Born April 14, 1944, in Funkstown, she was the daughter of the late Max and Pearl Wolfe.

She was a graduate of Boonsboro High School and received her nursing license from Mount Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.

She was employed in various nursing positions in Michigan and Florida.

She is survived by two daughters, Dana Spence of Davison, Mich., and Kimberly Taylor of Commerce Township, Mich.; six sisters, Rose Crow of Flushing, Mich., Lillie Leonard of Swartz Creek, Mich., Nancy Freitag of Albany, Ore., Roberta Link of Fenton, Mich., and Kathryn Poffenberger and Barbara Miller, both of Hagerstown; one brother, Gene Wolfe of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Reithmeier, Margaret Beyer and Lillian Kinsey; and one brother, Robert Wolfe.

Memorial services will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bethel Assembly of God Church, Hagerstown. Pastor Patrick Grach will officiate.

Elsie M. Simons, 90

MARCH 21, 1915-MARCH 9, 2006

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Elsie Perks Maye Simons, 90, of Charles Town, died Thursday, March 9, 2006.

Born March 21, 1915, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clarence C. and Mabel Dunn Perks.

Her first husband, Wesley Maye, died in 1970. Her second husband, Floyd Simons, died in 1992.

She had been employed at the former Victor Products in Charles Town, among others.

She was of the Pentecostal faith and was a member of the former Trinity Assembly of God Church in Charles Town.

She was a member of Living Waters Ministries Inc. of Sanford, N.C.

She is survived by three daughters, Janet M. Turner, Juanita V. Pierce and Ruby Christian, all of Charles Town; one son, Glenn Maye of Charles Town; two adopted daughters, Virginia Ward and Alice L. Kilmer, both of Leetown, W.Va.; one stepson, Frank Simons of Charles Town; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, John W. Maye, in 1974; and one brother, William P. Perks.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Pastor Allen Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
