Fire company lists calls in February

SMITHSBURG - In February, Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to 87 calls for service, bringing the 2006 total to 179 as of the end of the month.

Of the 87 calls, 10 were to Frederick County, Md., and four were to Franklin County, Pa.

There were 18 calls inside Smithsburg town limits and another five calls in the Hagerstown area, six in Cascade and 13 in the Leitersburg area.

A total of 52 patients were transported to area hospitals during the month.

The department also assisted on three fire-related calls during February, according to Capt. James Ulrich.

The second issue of the Smithsburg Emergency Services newsletter will be distributed to town residents Saturday morning.

Basket bingo will benefit fire company

SMITHSBURG - A basket bingo fundraiser for the Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Co. is scheduled for Saturday.


Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. Bingo games will begin at 6 p.m.

There will be 20 games with specials for $20.

All baskets are filled with goodies. Specials and early birds are available for purchase.
