Fire company offers free smoke detectors

The Maugansville Volunteer Fire Co. has recently teamed up with Operation Fire Safe to provide free smoke detectors to the residents in the Maugansville fire district.

The fire company will be going door to door to provide the detectors. It only takes a few minutes and they will even install them. The department can be reached at 301-739-8515 to schedule an appointment or you can wait until the firefighters visit your community.

If you are in need of a detector, please do not wait, call the fire departent right away. The goal is to save lives and property. The company will provide a smoke detector for each level of the home. There is no cost for the detectors; however, donations are accepted.


Women's Club's Spring Bargain Sale this weekend

The annual Women's Club Spring Bargain Sale will be held at the Club Building at 31 S. Prospect St. on Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Clothing, household items, jewelry and baked goods will be available for purchase. To order soups and sandwiches, please call the club office at 301-739-0870 by today. Soups include beef barley mushroom, beef vegetable, and ham and bean.

Cost is $4 a quart or $2 a pint. Sandwiches include country ham at $2.50 and egg and olive and ham salad at $1.75. Sandwiches will also be available the day of the sale. The Women's Club has fundraisers to support the upkeep of the historic clubhouse building, which also has 18 rooms providing low-cost housing to women in the community. Thank you for your support.

A Blast from the Past Dance is planned for Saturday, April 1, from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Funkstown Moose. Please contact Ken Welch at 301-733-9156. Admission is $9 per person. This event is open to the public

Sports memorabilia auction to be held April 8

The North Hagerstown High School Boosters Club has scheduled a Sports Memorabilia and Collectibles Auction to be held in the school gymnasium on Saturday, April 8. The auction will begin at 4 p.m. and benefit the Mike Callas Stadium project.

The group is accepting auction donations from businesses, clubs and individuals. Sports memorabilia, collectibles, gift certificates and or retail packages would be greatly appreciated. The Boosters are a nonprofit organization and all donations are tax deductible.

Pork and Sauerkraut dinner set for March 18

Saint Matthew's United Methodist Church on the corner of Franklin and High streets in Hagerstown will be holding a Pork and Sauerkraut dinner on Saturday, March 18.

Join them anytime between noon and 6 p.m. to enjoy pork, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, applesauce, coffee and water. Sodas will be available for 50 cents and a bake sale will also be held. Dinner is $7 for adults and children 12 and under are $3.50. Parking is available behind the church.
