Fishing pond construction OK'd

March 07, 2006

A new fishing pond could be complete in time for the spring derby, Town Manager John Kendall told the Boonsboro Town Council on Monday.

The council voted unanimously at its meeting to approve spending $151,640 to construct a new pond at Shafer Memorial Park, and it agreed to a $25,750 bid to fix water leaks identified in a recent study of the town's water system.

Assistant Town Mayor Howard W. Long was absent for the vote.

Both projects will be completed by Huntzberry Brothers Inc. of Smithsburg, Kendall said.

The fishing pond project started Monday morning, while the leak project could begin later this week, Kendall said.

The fishing derby is May 13.
