Teens aid homeless

March 07, 2006

Teens in Action Ministry at St. Mary's Catholic Church, led by youth minister Tammy Needy, recently reached out to serve a hot dinner for 58 homeless men and women at the Cold Weather Shelter.

The project started as a means to earn community service hours toward high school graduation requirements.

Along with preparing and serving dinner, the teens collected boxes of personal-hygiene items and were able to make a monetary donation to the REACH program. Before ending the evening, the teens presented their "guests" with words of inspiration on homemade cards.

REACH (Religious Effort to Assist and Care for the Homeless) is a local program designed to help those in need through rough times in their life.
