The Sweeneys

Robert and Olga Sweeney of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at Four Points Sheraton. A surprise dinner party was hosted by their children and spouses, Paul and Denise Sweeney; Steven and Julia Sweeney; Susan and Ed Bain; James Sweeney; and their six grandchildren.

Approximately 75 friends and family members joined in the celebration, some from as far away as Connecticut, New York and Florida. The Sweeney children presented their parents with a DVD of their life.

The Sweeneys were married Nov. 19, 1955, at St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Church in Waterbury, Conn., by Father Peter Dzubay.

Mrs. Sweeney is the former Olga Thedoria Sabatowich, daughter of the late Theodore and Anastasia Sabatowich. She was born and raised in Connecticut.


Mr. Sweeney is the son of the late Wilbur and Helen Sweeney. He was born and raised in New York.

The Chaneys

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lee Chaney Sr. of Hagers-town celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at a dinner at the home of their daughter in Waynesboro, Pa., hosted by their children and attended by family.

The Chaneys were married Oct. 16, 1965, at St. Mary's Catholic Church by Monsignor Robert Passarelli, now deceased.

Mrs. Chaney is the former Linda Gale Hall, daughter of Charles and Mildred Forsythe and the late Samuel L. Hall. She is employed with The Herald-Mail Co. in Hagerstown.

Mr. Chaney is the son of the late Jesse M. Chaney and the late Catherine Smith. He was employed for 38 years with Pangborn Corp. in Hagerstown. He is now employed at Maryland Correctional Training Center.

The Chaneys children and spouses include two daughters, Denise and Kenny Simmons and Kristine Chaney; three sons, Raymond Jr. and Hannah Chaney, Charles and Leslie Chaney, and Anthony and Amy Chaney.

The Chaneys have seven grandchildren.
