Civil War grant applications due soon

The advisory board for the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area has announced a March 22 deadline for Fiscal Year 2007 Maryland Heritage Area Authority project grant applications.

The noncapital Maryland Heritage Areas Authority provides grants of as much as $50,000 for planning, design, interpretation and programming. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations and local jurisdictions within the heritage area, which includes parts of Frederick, Carroll and Washington counties. Proposed activities must address or complete a priority activity identified in and consistent with the goals, objectives, strategies and actions outlined in the approved heritage area management plan available at www.heartofthecivilwar.org.

Capital project grants of as much as $100,000 are available within the target investment zones of Middletown, Taneytown and Hagerstown. These could include acquisition, development, rehabilitation, restoration and predevelopment costs.

Applications are available at www.marylandhistoricaltrust.net/ under forms and documents. Washington County applications should be submitted to Steve Goodrich, planner, Washington County Department of Planning & Community Development, 80 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
