Commissioners, Funkstown leaders discuss tax setoffs

March 01, 2006|by ERIN CUNNINGHAM

FUNKSTOWN - The Washington County Commissioners held their annual tax setoff meeting Tuesday night with Funkstown's mayor and council.

The town will receive $6,057, a $551 increase over last year. Funkstown received $5,506 in fiscal year 2005.

Tax setoff money partially reimburses municipalities for police, parks and road services. It is calculated based on population, assessable tax base and taxable income.

Three County Commissioners attended the meeting at Funkstown Town Hall: Commissioners President Gregory I. Snook, Commissioners Vice President William J. Wivell and Commissioner James F. Kercheval.

Funkstown's town council and Mayor Robert L. Kline also discussed issues like schools, roads and growth with the commissioners.
