Happy birthday, Jamison Door

March 01, 2006

Reaching 100 years of age is undoubtedly a milestone, but not every company that has reached the century mark can say it's still an industry leader and a vital part of its community.

We are pleased to say that the list of those exceptional few firms includes the Jamison Door Co., founded in Hagerstown on Feb. 28, 1906.

The firm began making doors for cold storage, a product line it continues today with clients that include Food Lion, Good Humor-Breyers Ice Cream and Save-A-Lot Foods.

Not only does the firm excel in the production of rigid doors, two years ago it purchased a company that manufactures a system that maintains constant temperatures on each side of an opening with a curtain of air.

The firm, which now employs 140, has given good, high-paying jobs to generations of local people.

Jamison provided much-needed employment and has been a good corporate citizen as well, winning the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission's "Made in Washington County Award" for 2005.

Some past winners include Beachley Furniture, Duvinage Corp. and Hub Labels Inc.

That's good company to be in. We have a feeling that 100 years from now, Jamison Door will still be making history.
